WA Tempranillo

Tempranillo is a red grape variety originating from Spain where it is the backbone of Rioja and Ribera del Duero wines.

In Australia, WA Tempranillo is popular as a single variety but now the inclusion of Tempranillo in blends is becoming much more accepted as a welcome alternative to traditional offerings.

Aged in American oak barrels Fifth Estate Tempranillo is typically medium bodied with powerful fresh black plum skin aromas.

The palate is rich and dense with big flavours of plum skin and beetroot with underlying smoke and touches of dried herbs.

Tempranillo has found a natural home in the warmer regions of Australia and has developed a bit of a cult following over the past couple of decades.

The climate of the Geographe region of WA suits Tempranillo ideally and offers something different to Shiraz and Cabernet that have dominated the market for a long time.
